Globally, this year is currently the third-hottest on record. Climate statistics indicate it trails behind 2024 and 2025. However, there is still a possibility it could become the hottest year by the end of 2026.

In Western Europe, extreme heat has been ongoing since May. This has led to significant issues, including wildfires and drought. The region has also experienced new temperature records.

Further information on the heat waves and their impact is available from the European climate agency Copernicus and other sources, such as KSAT 12.
