A 68-year-old man, Kelly Lee Brower Sr, has been arrested in connection with a 1981 cold case murder. He confessed to the crime, which involved the murder of 23-year-old Yolanda Herrera. DNA evidence collected from the victim's autopsy, including fingernail scrapings and a bodily fluid sample, was used to identify the suspect.

The case was regularly reviewed over the years, but no suspects were previously identified until advances in DNA technology led to a male DNA profile in 2021. The profile was sent to a laboratory for further testing, which yielded a surname associated with the suspect.

Further details on the case and the arrest are available from the Universal City Police Department, which recently held a news conference to discuss the developments.
