Legionella bacteria were found in a cooling tower at Yankee Stadium, one of 10 towers in the area that tested positive. The bacteria can cause Legionnaires' disease, a potentially fatal form of pneumonia. Health officials are investigating a cluster of cases in the area, including one death.
Further testing is being done to determine if the bacteria found are live, as only live bacteria can cause the disease. The initial testing found traces of living or dead bacteria.
The Yankees say that none of the current cases have been linked to the stadium, according to health officials. More information is available from the city's Health Department, which is continuing to investigate the outbreak.
