Only three elected governors have been Black in the past 250 years, all of them Democrats and men. Current Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is one of them. This year, he may be joined by others as there are now eight major party candidates who are Black on the ballot.

These candidates include men and women from both parties. They typically focus on their experience and policy proposals rather than the historic nature of their nominations.

Further information about these candidates and their campaigns is available from the source.
